Our suppliers do not use elementary chlorine bleaching in the manufacture of pulp. But why is elementary chlorine bleaching bad for the environment?
Chlorine used for bleaching causes highly chlorinated organic matters in emissions (effluent) from the manufacturing plant. These have a low degradability and are harmful to aquatic life. Furthermore, they can lead to bioaccumulations in fish (an example) and are exaggerated by each step in the food chain.
